Music Review - From Viral TikTok Reel to Playlist: Imael Angel’s “BAD TIMES”
Sometimes a song doesn’t need to be recommended by an algorithm or sent directly to us. It just appears in the right reel at the right time, and that’s exactly how we discovered Imael Angel’s “BAD TIMES.” While scrolling through TikTok, the track caught our attention in a viral reel that immediately made us stop and listen. There was something about the combination of the visual and that dark, steady groove that made us want to hear the full track.
“BAD TIMES” sits comfortably between deep house and slap house, with a moody electronic atmosphere and a rhythm that never feels forced. It has that late-night quality we look for in a track — something that works equally well while driving through the city, getting through a workout, or simply having music playing in the background. The production keeps the groove at the center, giving the track enough energy without making it feel overly busy.
What makes the song particularly interesting is how naturally it fits the short-form video world. The viral reel that introduced us to “BAD TIMES” gave us a completely different reason to discover the track, but once we listened beyond that moment, the song stood on its own. The beat has a hypnotic quality that makes it easy to understand why it works so well with visual content and why it has caught attention on TikTok.
For us, “BAD TIMES” is a good example of how discovering music has changed. A track can appear in a few seconds of a reel, catch your ear, and lead you down a completely different musical rabbit hole. Imael Angel’s deep house and slap house production gives “BAD TIMES” the kind of moody, infectious energy that can easily find a place in a late-night, driving, or workout playlist. It may have first caught our attention through a viral reel, but the track itself is what keeps us coming back.
