“Game of Love” by Michellar, featuring Rad Datsun, feels like one of those songs that sounds fun at first but has a bit of ache hiding underneath. The looping groove keeps things moving, almost carefree, while the lyrics tell a different story — one where love keeps shifting and no one’s really sure where they stand.
The idea behind it came from a songwriting retreat in the San Bernadino mountains, where, as Michellar put it, “We wanted to create a song with a looping backtrack that centered on Love and the many ways that people can make a game out of it.” That looping feel works here, especially with lines about “a little bit of laughs” and “a little bit of pain,” which feel more lived-in than poetic. Rad Datsun adds a nice contrast, giving the track a back-and-forth energy that fits the theme.
“Game of Love” doesn’t try to explain love or fix it. It just sits in that in-between space — where things start with a kiss and end with questions — and lets the song speak for itself.
