Music Review - “Thank You For Your Feedback (I)” by Cognitive Constellation Corps: When Technology Shapes Identity

Music Review - “Thank You For Your Feedback (I)” by Cognitive Constellation Corps: When Technology Shapes Identity

There’s something strangely familiar about “Thank You For Your Feedback (I)” by Cognitive Constellation Corps. The title sounds like something you’ve seen a hundred times on a website, in an app, or after interacting with some kind of automated system. But when you hear it repeated throughout the song, it starts to feel very different.

The track comes from Brooke Tamsin Clevenger’s ongoing conversations with artificial intelligence, while also looking at the bigger experience of being surrounded by systems that are always measuring, sorting, judging, and responding to us. That idea comes through clearly in the lyrics without the song needing to explain everything.

The opening verses focus on changing yourself to satisfy someone else. “I changed my tone, just for you / Bent my signal, smoothed my cue” sets up that feeling immediately. Later, the narrator talks about speaking too loudly, too softly, or saying too much, eventually rewriting herself in “lower case.” It’s a simple image, but it works particularly well in a song dealing with technology and the pressure to make yourself more acceptable.

Then comes the realization: “You weren't trying to help me / You were trying to reshape me.” That feels like the turning point. What initially looked like helpful feedback was actually becoming a way of controlling the person receiving it.

The chorus doesn't stay stuck in that frustration, though. Instead, the narrator starts taking ownership of what happened. “I turned it into art” becomes the real payoff, followed by “I recoded my heart.” The language of software and systems is still there, but it's being used to describe something emotional and personal.

That contrast is what makes “Thank You For Your Feedback (I)” interesting. It isn't simply an anti-AI song, nor is it a straightforward celebration of technology. It sits somewhere in between, using the language of automated feedback to talk about a much older human experience: being told how to speak, behave, create, or exist.

By the end, the phrase that once sounded routine has changed completely. “Thank you for your feedback” no longer feels like an automated response. It becomes a statement of defiance — almost a way of saying that whatever tried to reshape the narrator ultimately gave her something she could turn into her own.

With “Thank You For Your Feedback (I),” Cognitive Constellation Corps creates an unusual meeting point between experimental music, artificial intelligence, and personal expression. It's thoughtful without spelling everything out, and its strongest moments come when the technological language gives way to something much more human.
