Music Review - LESS Breaks the Silence with “Hellya!” — A Raw Alternative Rock Release

There’s a specific kind of burnout that creeps in quietly. Not dramatic, not loud, just heavy enough to keep you in bed longer than you meant to be. “Hellya!” by LESS feels like it was written right in the middle of that fog.

The opening lines don’t try to be clever. “Spending the last three months / Lying in my bed.” That’s it, no filter. The song sits in that stuck feeling for a moment — the confusion of not knowing where the damage started, the frustration of not reacting the way you used to. It reads less like storytelling and more like someone thinking out loud.

And then something shifts.

Musically, “Hellya!” doesn’t stay motionless for long. The guitars come in rough around the edges, the drums push forward, and suddenly the track feels like it’s trying to pull itself up by the collar. It’s rock-infused, yes, but not in a polished, radio-safe way. There’s grit in it, a kind of impatience. The repeated “Hell ya” lands almost like a dare — not celebratory, more confrontational. Like telling yourself to snap out of it, even if you’re not fully ready.

That’s where LESS really locks in. The tension between paralysis and reaction runs through the entire track. Lines about being scared of ending up with “nothing but a little tears” don’t feel exaggerated. They feel human, vulnerable without being dramatic about it.

What stands out most is how intentional this release feels. “Hellya!” signals a clearer artistic direction — louder, more decisive, more willing to sit in emotional intensity without softening it. There’s a push here to reclaim music as pure expression, not performance, not expectation, just release.

In the current alternative rock space, where a lot of songs lean heavily into aesthetic mood, LESS sounds more internal than curated. The frustration feels lived-in and the energy feels earned.

You can give a listen to “Hellya!” below and make sure you give a follow to stay tuned with LESS's future releases
